Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko Announces Record $1.7 Billion in Crypto Payments

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko announced that the country has processed a record $1.7 billion in cryptocurrency payments during the first seven months of 2025. This marks a significant increase from $1.2 billion in the same period the previous year, highlighting the growing role of digital currencies in Belarus's economy.

Lukashenko projected that the total volume of crypto payments could reach $3 billion by the end of the year, underscoring the expanding adoption of cryptocurrencies in the nation. He emphasized that cryptocurrency-based transactions are becoming "more active than ever," with their role in facilitating payments continuing to grow.

In response to these developments, Lukashenko has urged Belarusian banks to expand their use of digital tokens. He acknowledged that over the past five years, the national economy and the banking sector have faced unprecedented challenges, and he has directed the government and the National Bank to take corresponding actions to adapt to these changes.
